I'm having some pretty annoying issues with Java on my computer (running OS 10.7.5), and I've been working all day trying to fix it and haven't gotten anywhere. I was hoping that maybe someone here knows of something I can do that might help. So first of all, my issue. When I try to run anything Java in Safari, it simply does absolutely nothing. This has been happening for a while, and is nothing new.
So I just got a Macbook and downloaded Minecraft. It said I needed to update Java before I ran it, so I did. I tried running it again, I logged in, it downloaded the packages, but then a black screen.
However, the new development (about a week or two ago), is that Firefox is also no longer able to run any Java. It will load the plug-in, and then crash. The Java site says that I am running the latest version (1.7_45). Also, I tried running a.jar file, same deal. Terminal does confirm that I have Java as well, but when I tried to run a.jar file manually from terminal, it told me that the Java Virtual Machine could not be started. So I tried rolling it back to 1.6, as the Apple site recommends. That worked fine, and the rollback succeeded, but then the problems were still there.
Then I tried going back to 1.7_45, and still no luck. Clearing the cache did nothing in either case.
I tried the exact same websites on another computer, running the same OS and 1.6, and it worked fine, so it seems to be something wrong with this computer in particular. Here is the error code I get from terminal. So first of all, my issue. When I try to run anything Java in Safari, it simply does absolutely nothing. Not sure if you're still having this issue, but for others that might read this, I just ran the Java update for Mac Lion via Software Update because of a slowness problem and this was the description: > Java for OS X 2013-005 delivers improved security, reliability, and compatibility by updating Java SE 6 to 1.6.0_65. > On systems that have not already installed Java for OS X 2012-006, this update disables the Java SE 6 applet plug-in. To use applets on a web page, click on the region labeled 'Missing plug-in' to download the latest version of the Java applet plug-in from Oracle. > See for more details about this update. > See for information about the security content of this update. Seems to describe your issue somewhat.

Following settings worked perfectly for me the first picture shows how to enable Java Plugin Launching for browsers ( when Java does not work with any browser and also unable to verify java on java.com site ) the second picture shows how to enable Java Control Panel ( or Configure Java ) the third picture shows the folder path where these two java applications are located in the computer just right-click on the JP2LAUNCHER click Properties click Compatibility tick Compatibility Mode set WindowsNT repeat the same thing for the other one ( JAVAW ).
